The first thing Courtney does upon receving the invitation to this extended family picnic is hope that a certain family member won't be there. In particular, Simon. Courtney gets along fine with her aunt and uncle, but never became close with them until her mother passed away when she was eight. Her and her brother, Zack, have a love/hate relationship. Her and her father are at times distant, but they get along fairly well. Courtney can't stand Simon because he's a prankster and hotheaded.
On the day of the picnic, Courtney dresses comfortably. She doesn't have anyone to really impress anyway. At least not anyone but herself. The only reason she'd dress sexily was if her brother was bringing a cute guy friend of his. Instead of wearing a short, low-cut, spaghetti strap violet dress, she decides she will remain simple, casual, and still comfortable. She decides to wear some low-rise, dark denim in-expensive jeans, and a plain lavender tank top with a beige jacket over it.
Assuming her mother was still alive, Courtney greets her mother with genuine love and enthusiasm. Before the woman passed away, in a car accident, she and Courtney were inseperable. Her mother always let her get away with a lot of things, even if her father didn't always approve. Courtney would greet her mother with a kiss on the cheek, and follow with a hug.
As for how she would greet her father, well, now that her mother is dead, she would greet him indifferently. They tend to get into fights, especially on account of her rebellious nature. Before her mother died, she would have greeted him gruffly. She greets her father with a nod of regard and a cordial, "hey dad." She rarely gets to see much of him since he's always busy with his job, being that he's a relator, but he's still around to set ground rules for his daughter.
Courtney decides to spend her time conversing with one other family member, particularly, her Aunt Shelly. The two of them talk about guys, college, and how Courtney is adjusting to living with her father. Shelly gives Courtney advice on problems she's struggling with. In reality, Courtney finds that Shelly is the closest thing she has to a maternal figure. She also catches up with her brother, and tries to avoid Simon.
All and all, I would describe the picnic as cordial, despite the conflict between Courtney and Simon. Josh finds their bickering and animosity amusing, and while Courtney can't tolerate Simon's spontaneous nature, Zack can. She and Zack end up getting into a minor disagreement over Simon, but she doesn't blow it out of proportion as someone else might. As a result, she ignores Zack for most of the picnic, and spends time with her aunt and uncle.
What Courtney would do if:
• If she had to organize the family picnic, she'd probably find some way to get out of it. Or, if her father told her there was no way of getting out of it, she'd probably slack off in her duties or most likely, forget to do or bring something essential. She wouldn't be the most reliable person, that's for sure.
• If a fight erupted between her mom and dad, she'd probably try and break it up until one of them cooled down, and if they told her to stay out of it, she'd just walk away and retreat to a place by herself until things got sorted out. She wouldn't want to be around them. Then, if by the time she returned to the picnic, they were still fighting, she'd ask her brother to drive her home.
• If a stranger crashed the party, what she would do would depend on the stranger. If it was a guy her age, she would most likely start flirting with him, if only to get away from her family for a little while. If it was a girl her age, she'd probably stop and chat with her anyway. If only to make friends and also to get away from everyone else. If it was an older man or woman around her father's age, she'd be suspicious and ask her father if he invited someone else and not told her. Then, she'd let her father handle the situation either way.
• If one of the younger guests vanished, she'd let someone else go in search of them, and probably nominate Simon to go find them. That way he could leave her alone. She'd be happy to get rid of him, but if it was one of her younger cousins that she felt close to, she'd go in search of the child herself.
• If a feuding family member arrived, she'd tell them to leave, and if they didn't, she would. Her father might disapprove of her behavior, but she wouldn't care. She'd suggest it be them or her. If she was forced to stay, she'd probably take her brother and ditch the picnic, when her father wasn't looking of course.
• If a sibling invited her to join in a drinking game, she'd probably do it. Underage or not, but she'd make sure her father wasn't around or looking before engaging in it. She'd probably coax them into doing it somewhere private. With Simon there, she'd do anything to get her mind off him.
• If she grew bored and wanted to leave, she'd probably make up an excuse that her father would buy into, and get her brother to take her home. If she were anywhere else without her family, she would automatically leave. That's all there is to it.
Other Picnic Situation:
An intimate picnic on a lazy summer day by the lake, would probably end up with Courtney making out with the guy, or at least trying to coax the guy into intimate conversation that leads to making out. If an ex-boyfriend or ex-girlfriend decided to crash their picnic, she'd tell them to get lost, and if they didn't, she would probably get into a verbal and/or physical fight with them, depending on how much the other person pushed back. If it were her ex-boyfriend, they'd probably just fight verbally, and ultimately, she'd tell her current flame to follow her and they'd go somewhere else.
Food for Thought:
• I don't know if Courtney has an ongoing relationship with her father, but considering he's not around that often, they have a distant relationship. When he is around, they don't talk much, but he does have a tendency to be overprotective of her and has his objections about the things she does sometimes. He still tries to protect her despite her independent and rebellious demeanor.
• Courtney has a dynamic relationship with her older brother, Zack. Like I've previously stated, they have a love/hate relationship but are the best of friends. They do get into ocassional squabbles, but they are harmless and petty. Deep down, she loves her brother and wouldn't trade him for anyone else.
